Programme/Schedule
Jeudi 23 octobre 2008 :
9h00-10h00 : Ernst Hairer (Université de Genève)
Origin
of trees in numerical ordinary differential equations
In
the seminal work of John Butcher (1963-1972) the algebraic structure of integration methods has
been clarified and the use of trees has been emphasized to get a better
understanding of order conditions for Runge–Kutta methods. Based on
this work, Hairer and Wanner (1974) have introduced B-series (“B” in
honour of John Butcher) which are nowadays a fundamental tool for
studying integration methods. In this talk we present the
origin of this development, and we discuss various applications and
extensions of the use of trees in numerically solving ordinary differential
equations.
10h30-11h15 : Dominique Manchon (CNRS-Université Blaise Pascal)
Introduction
Ebrahimi-Fard, Manchon, 2008).
Vendredi 24 octobre 2008 :
10h00-10h45 : Hans Munthe-Kaas (Université de Bergen)
Lie group integrators are numerical integrators based on (possibly)
non-commutative Lie group actions on a manifold.
In the talk we will briefly discuss such methods, and the Hopf
algebra underlying the analysis of these. This algebra combines the
Butcher-Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra with the shuffle Hopf algebra
of the universal enveloping algebra of a free Lie algebra in a common
algebraic structure. The resulting Lie-Butcher series can be seen as
a refinement of classical Lie series on manifolds, and the classical
B-series appear as the special case where the group action is
commutative.
11h15-12h00 :
Frédéric Chapoton (CNRS-Université
Lyon 1)
Sebastiàn-Donostia)
In this talk, we present an abstract framework which describes
algebraically the derivation of order conditions independently of the
nature of the differential equations considered or the type of
integrators used to solve them. Our structure includes a Hopf algebra
of functions, whose properties are used to answer several
questions of prime interest in numerical analysis. In particular, we
show that, under some mild assumptions, there exist integrators of
arbitrarily high orders for arbitrary (modified) vector fields. This is
a joint work with Philippe Chartier.
15h00-15h45 :
Kurusch Ebrahimi-Fard (Université de Haute
Alsace/Université de Saragosse)
In
this talk we review recent work on the classical Magnus and Fer
expansions, unveiling a new structure by using the language of
dendriform and pre-Lie algebras as well as Hopf algebras of rooted
trees. We introduce a particular class of linear equations in
dendriform algebras and its solutions. Motivations as well as several
applications are provided (This is joint work with D. Manchon).
